Headteacher's Welcome
Headteacher’s Welcome
Having joined the community of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in January 2013, I remain deeply grateful for the privilege of serving a school where faith, love, and learning are woven into the fabric of everyday life. St Mary’s is a warm, welcoming, and faith‑filled community in which the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not only taught but lived. Our vision, rooted in prayer, love, and service and shaped through our close partnership with St Mary’s Parish, inspires everything we do. At the heart of our school is our mission statement, Love One Another, a simple yet profound call from Christ that guides our relationships, our teaching, and our decisions.
We believe that every child is a unique gift from God, created in His image and called to grow in dignity, faith, and hope. With this belief at the centre of our work, we strive to create a Christ‑centred, nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued, and loved. Serving a community that experiences social and economic deprivation, we take seriously our role as a visible sign of hope, stability, and compassion. We aim to be a place where children not only succeed academically but also grow spiritually, emotionally, and socially, supported to become the people God calls them to be.
We expect every teacher to be a good teacher because no child deserves less. In practical terms, this means ensuring every child is known personally and supported with genuine care. As a medium‑sized school of around 150 pupils, we are blessed to know each child by name, by personality, and by spirit. I meet regularly with teachers to review each child’s progress, identify barriers, and plan for growth. This shared responsibility ensures that our teaching is purposeful, responsive, and rooted in the love we hold for our children.
Make every lesson count is more than a phrase for us; it is a commitment. Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, deepen understanding, and support the formation of the whole child. Religious Education plays a central role, helping children come to know Christ more deeply while learning to appreciate and respect other faiths and worldviews. Through high‑quality teaching and a rich programme of prayer and worship, children learn to make meaningful connections between faith and everyday life, developing the confidence and compassion to live out the Gospel.
St Mary’s is a community in which the partnership between home, school, and parish is cherished and nurtured. We work closely with our parish priest, with parishioners, and with families to support each child’s wellbeing, faith formation, and personal development. This collaboration ensures that children experience consistency, belonging, and encouragement throughout their spiritual journey.
Our aim is that St Mary’s becomes outstanding in every sense: a place where children flourish, where faith is alive, and where Love One Another is not only our mission but our daily practice. If you are looking for a smaller school with a strong family ethos, grounded in Catholic values and enriched by a joyful, prayerful atmosphere, we warmly invite you to visit us. We would be delighted to welcome you into our St Mary’s family.
