Safeguarding

🛡️ Safeguarding at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School
At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, safeguarding is not just a policy—it is a deeply held commitment rooted in our Catholic values of love, respect, and inclusion. We believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported, and we work tirelessly to ensure that our school is a secure and nurturing environment where children can flourish academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Our Commitment to Safeguarding
As a Voluntary Aided school, we follow the OFSTED inspection framework and adhere to the Telford & Wrekin Area Child Protection Committee’s procedures. Our safeguarding practices are robust, regularly reviewed, and embedded in every aspect of school life—from classroom routines to pastoral care. We have a comprehensive Child Protection Policy in place, and all staff receive regular training to ensure they are confident and equipped to identify and respond to any concerns.
Working in Partnership with Families
We recognise that safeguarding is a shared responsibility. By working in close partnership with parents and carers, we aim to build strong, trusting relationships that support each child’s development and wellbeing. Our safeguarding leads, Mrs Lambie and Mrs Griffiths, are always available to listen, offer guidance, and work collaboratively with families to address any issues that may arise. We value open communication and encourage parents to speak with us about any concerns, no matter how small.
Putting Children First
There may be occasions when our concern for a child’s welfare requires us to consult with external agencies before speaking with parents. We understand that this can be difficult, but please be assured that such decisions are never taken lightly and are always made with the child’s best interests at heart. We are committed to transparency and will keep families informed wherever possible, while respecting the procedures required to protect children effectively.
Promoting a Culture of Safeguarding
Safeguarding at St Mary’s goes beyond policies—it is part of our daily ethos. We promote positive behaviour, respect for others, and emotional resilience. We teach children how to stay safe online, how to seek help when needed, and how to make responsible choices in the wider community. Attendance and punctuality are closely monitored, and we work proactively to remove barriers to learning and wellbeing. Through our Gospel-centred approach, we aim to raise children who are not only safe but also kind, confident, and ready to contribute positively to society.
If you have any questions or concerns about safeguarding at our school, please contact Mrs Lambie or Mrs Griffiths. We are here to support you and your family, and to work together to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every child in our care.
